13th Anniversary of the Death of SJ Police Officer Desmond Casey

Today we remember the life and service of fallen San Jose Police Officer Desmond Casey. Thirteen years ago, Officer Casey, a helicopter pilot for the San Jose Police Department, heroically crash-landed his helicopter on The Alameda road during afternoon traffic after experiencing mechanical difficulties. His decisive action and piloting skill allowed him to crash the helicopter in a clearing in traffic, avoiding surrounding pedestrians, cars, buildings and power lines. Officer Casey and his mechanic on board were both killed (you can read more about Officer Casey here).

Officer Casey represented the best of the San Jose Police Department: dedicated, selflessness and committed to the safety of our residents. We continue to mourn his loss but celebrate his service and sacrifice. Officer Desmond Casey will never be forgotten.
